SHORT POEMS ~ TALL COWBOYS
OUR TRIBUTE TO "THE COWBOY"
Val Moker is a two dimensional Canadian artist whose passion is captured in her diverse
range of figurative art, which harmoniously blends atmosphere, character and emotion in
crisply engaging compositions.
Val began her art career in the early 1980’s as a teacher of the visual arts, after receiving
an education degree and an arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan. She is a
member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA), the Canadian Portrait Academy
(CPA) and the Cowboy Artists and Photographers of America (CAPA). While she
continues to instruct, she pursues her vision of becoming a world-recognized artist.
That vision is taking shape. In 2000, Val was accepted into the Aim for Arts
International Art Competition, cosponsored by the FCA and Aim Funds Management
Inc. Her work was featured in the hotel and tourism magazine, Rolling Pin International
and the upscale American West magazine, Cowboys & Indians. Additional notoriety has
come to Val in 2003, with the acceptance of her works into the Women Artists of the
West (WAOW) 5 th International Juried Competition, Dubois, Wyoming and the
Laredo Center for the Arts 11 th Annual International Juried Show in Laredo, Texas.
Most recently, Tom Selleck, Chairman of the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s
2003 Golden Boot Awards, selected Val to submit a piece from her collection to be
included in the award’s art auction at Merv Griffin’s Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Since 1999, Val’s work has been accepted at the Calgary Stampede’s Western Art
Show & Auction, where she was named "Best New Artist" her first year at the show.
One of her works was represented at the National Workers’ Compensation Congress
held in Prince Edward Island in 2000. In 2003, having been nominated by the President
of the CPA as an invitational exhibitor member, her work showed at their 5 th Annual
Exhibition and received citations for "1 st Honorable Mention to Best Portrait Painting"
and the "People’s Choice Award".
Val's dedication and striving for connection between her work and her audience, places
her among one of today’s growing talents in the art community.
